Results of our university sports survey

After the big winter sports programme 25/26, we conducted an online survey on university sports, which we have now evaluated.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for your participation and constructive feedback. The questionnaire was completed 856 times in total. The results show that 57% of respondents use the university sports programmes regularly or very frequently, while 43% use them rarely or not at all. The most common reasons for this are a lack of places in the desired courses and a lack of time, followed by the use of other sports programmes outside of university sports.

Particularly popular formats are advanced courses lasting several weeks, as well as single-date programmes and one-day events that allow flexible participation. Overall, the variety of offers and the price-performance ratio of the university sports programmes are rated positively; however, the low number of offers and participation places is criticised.

As far as the assessment of the university sports culture is concerned, most people feel welcome at university sports, but do not always perceive a sense of community in the programmes. The infrastructure at the sports centre also receives mixed reviews. In some cases, the sports equipment and the condition of the changing rooms - especially the lockers in the university swimming pool - are criticised. The university sports staff, especially the course leaders and the Info Point team, received top marks for their friendliness.

Overall satisfaction with the winter sports programme is high. Over 88% of respondents stated that they were very satisfied or satisfied with the programme they attended. 9.4 % were only partially satisfied and 2.3 % were not very satisfied or not satisfied at all.

What does this mean?

We have derived the following concrete measures from your feedback:

  • We have already replaced several pieces of sports equipment (balls, small fitness equipment) and are planning further new purchases in collaboration with the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science.
  • The indoor swimming pool will soon be fitted with a privacy screen to create more privacy, and the lockers in the pool changing rooms are to be completely refurbished at the beginning of next year.
  • We are also holding feedback meetings with our course leaders, revising the course descriptions together and offering them targeted training opportunities to improve the quality of the courses.
  • In order to reduce space problems, we have lowered the maximum number of participants for swimming times and introduced an additional supervised playing time for volleyball with individual bookings at the weekend.

Unfortunately, we are severely limited by space and material storage when it comes to your greatest wish, the expansion of the university sports programme. The capacities available at the sports centre are already being used to the maximum, and renting additional external sports facilities is problematic for various reasons. In addition to high costs, differing holiday periods and lack of access to materials play a major role here.

The good news, however, is that the sports centre is to be extended to include a new two-court hall - a significant step that will sustainably increase the amount of space available, even if it will certainly take some time to complete.

Your feedback remains our most important driver and is necessary in order to tailor our university sports programme more closely to your needs. Therefore, please take the opportunity to send us your feedback and comments outside of our surveys and contact us directly. Not everything can be implemented or solved - be it for organisational reasons, legal framework conditions or due to a lack of resources. However, we will do our utmost to further improve the university sports programme.
