To help you choose suitable sports activities from our programmes, each activity includes not only detailed descriptions but also a sports scale covering the categories of endurance, flexibility, coordination, strength and physical contact. You can find further details on the scale values under ‘Sports Scale’. In addition, the detailed information for each activity also includes details on the difficulty level (see ‘Level Overview’).

In the descriptions of our sports activities, you will find a scale for the categories of endurance, flexibility, coordination, strength and physical contact. This scale is intended to serve as a brief guide and to help you choose a sports activity. However, please note that, depending on the focus set by the course leaders, there may be variations in the levels of emphasis placed on the individual categories. The composition and interests of the group of participants, as well as your own individual abilities, may also have an impact in this regard, meaning that the sports scale can only provide a rough guide.

Explanation of the scale values

For the categories of endurance, flexibility, coordination and strength, the scale is based on the extent to which the respective category characterises the sport or activity and is a stated training objective of the programme.

0 = The category plays a minor role in the sports programme and is trained little or not at all.

1 = The category plays a minor role in the sport but is not a training objective of the programme.

2 = The category is an important component of the sport, but is not regarded as a training objective of the programme.

3 = The category is an important component of the sport and a stated training objective of the programme.

For the ‘physical contact’ category, the scale is based on the extent to which physical contact between participants and/or between participants and instructors forms part of the sport or the programme.

0 = Physical contact can be avoided entirely in the sports programme. Assistance and/or corrections involving physical contact are optional and therefore not strictly necessary.

1 = Physical contact may occur, for example, during the course of play, but it is not an essential part of the sport. Assistance and/or corrections involving physical contact are optional and therefore not strictly necessary.

2 = Physical contact is an integral part of the sporting activity, at least at certain stages. Assistance and/or corrections involving physical contact may be absolutely necessary.

3 = Close physical contact is unavoidable in this sport. In some cases, participants may also be expected to change partners. Assistance and/or corrections involving physical contact may be absolutely necessary.
